Paul the octopus shot to fame after correctly predicting the outcomes of 8 world cup games in a row, including the final. And now, an army of bookmakers are out to buy him.
British bookmaker William Hill are amongst those who have contacted the Sea Life aquarium in Oberhausen, Germany in an attempt to acquire Paul. But, for now at least, he'll be going nowhere.
Tanja Munzig, a spokeswoman for the aquarium, said in a recent interview "There are a lot of offers for Paul from betting offices and other areas. One thing is clear - Paul is staying with us."
The official line from William Hill is that Paul is simply too good at predicting winners to be left in the public domain. But whether this slightly sinister sounding motive would see Paul re-homed under a new name, used in advertising campaigns, or turned into Takoyaki, is unclear.
