American pizza joint and arcade Chuck E Cheese is being sued by a mother of two from San Diego over claims that their games are a form of gambling.
For those of you unfamiliar with Chuck E Cheese, the arcade offers a variety of games such as Skee Ball, Space Invaders and Air Hockey. Players win tickets depending on the outcome of the game, which can then be exchanged for prizes which range in value from small trinkets to, well, small trinkets.
Denise Keller, the mother behind the case, argues that many of the games are no different to a slot machine or roulette wheel and that games of chance such as this are illegal in the state of California. It should be noted that games with an element of skill such as Skee Ball are not being challenged in the lawsuit.
If successful, the offending games would have to be removed from Chuck E Cheese, and customers would have to be paid back any money they had spent on the games. Although determining who had spent what would be a near impossible task.
